We will then embark on a scenic 3-hour drive through the quiet, starlit desert towards the St. Catherine area, stopping briefly for a 15-minute rest to prepare for the hike.
We arrive at the foot of the mountain around midnight to officially begin our Mount Sinai Night Tour from Sharm El Sheikh. Guided by local Bedouin experts, you will hike up the winding, rocky trails under a spectacular starry sky.
If you prefer to save your energy, you have the option to hire a camel (for an extra fee) to carry you up the first two-thirds of the trail. However, everyone must complete the final stretch on foot. This involves climbing the famous 700 “Steps of Repentance” to reach the majestic summit. Reaching the peak at 2,285 meters above sea level just in time to witness a stunning, panoramic sunrise over the surrounding jagged mountains is a profoundly moving experience.
After soaking in the magnificent sunrise views and taking plenty of photographs, we will carefully descend the mountain. At the base, we will visit the world-famous Saint Catherine’s Monastery, officially recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the oldest continuously operating Christian monastery in the world.
During the monastery’s opening hours (8:45 AM to 11:45 AM), you will discover an incredible array of ancient history. You will see the legendary Burning Bush, admire ancient religious icons, and learn about their massive collection of rare manuscripts. Please note that the monastery is closed to visitors on Fridays, Sundays, and during specific Coptic religious holidays.
After a deeply rewarding morning of historical exploration, we will enjoy a light breakfast snack before driving back to the coast.
